Veteran Kumawood actor, Kofi Adu aka Agya Koo has explained how he became the most sought-after figure in the local movie industry and helped it to become a profitable business.
This comes on the back of allegations by some movie producers and colleague actors that Agya Koo, during his prime, deliberately held the industry hostage after realizing that he was the most popular actor people want to see in movies.
According to Agya Koo, he rather used his position to help Ghanaian movie producers to become wealthy through the sale of movies he starred in.
Agya Koo in an interview on Angel FM said his commercial value became so strong that almost every movie he was featured in became a hit both locally and internationally, giving investors huge returns on their investments.
“This is something that no producer in Kumasi can ever refute. When I was involved, they earned a lot of money. My films received a great deal of support, and it was this support that enabled these producers to become who they are now,” Agya Koo said.
Agya Koo, started his career in the 1990s as a comedian in the popular Keysoap Concert Party held at the National Theatre in Accra. He has starred in over 200 Ghanaian films, including Obaatanpa, Black Star, and Ma Tricki Wo. He is a singer and founder of Tete Mmofra Band.
In 2007, Agya Koo was awarded with a national medal for his contribution to the creative arts industry.
