Ghanaian multi-instrumentalist, Kwame Yeboah, a free spirit across the road between highlife and jazz, is back with this new single ‘Ahwenepa’.
The song was released on April 29, 2022.
Kwame is extremely skilled, capable of moving between different worlds, while still maintaining his devoted roots in Ghanaian Highlife.
‘Ahwenepa’ brings to the fore Kwame Yeboah’s talent as an arranger, bandleader, and keyboard player with multiple band outfits who are an ensemble of young, inspired musicians namely, The Kwarmy Band, Kwashibu Area Band and the Three O’.
The track opens with a glorious statement of rippling keyboards and fluttering flutes, before shifting through a melting pot of intense, subtle grooves that consistently hark to the undertones of Highlife music.
A beguiling mix of intricately structured improvisations with blistering rhythmic intensity – his playing on this single veers from the lightning-paced freneticism of fusion-era stalwarts like Herbie Hancock to the slippery grooves of Lonnie Liston Smith.
The fluidity of Ahwenepa is a perfect marriage of Highlife and Jazz in equal measure. This single embodies Kwame Yeboah’s creative spirit and the abundant talent that emerges from it.
Kwame Yeboah is an outstanding multi-instrumentalist, producer and inspirational music director who has worked with Ghana’s maestro Kojo Antwi and international greats such as Yusuf / Cat Stevens, Craig David, Stevie Wonder, Shaggy & many more.
