Like many Ghanaians, actor/politician John Dumelo, is not happy with the 1.5% charges imposed on electronic transactions by the government of Ghana.
The 2020 NDC parliamentary candidate for the Ayawaso West Wuagon Constituency is therefore calling in his colleagues in the creative arts industry to support him to embark on a demonstration in protest against the Electronic Transfer Levy (E-levy) which the government of Ghana started implementing on May 1, 2022.
Announcing the rationale behind his decision to his followers, the actor shared his recent experience while sending money to his workers.
“Today, I sent momo worth almost 5,000 to pay the farmworkers. Do you know how much e-levy I paid? Almost 70-something cedi. If I have to pay such an amount every day, I will be paying 70 cedis every day. It is serious. It’s not good.”
He also accused the government of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo of being intolerant and wondered whether they would even pay attention to the concerns of citizens who use mobile money.
