Ace satirist, Kwaku Sintim-Misa (KSM) says the Inspector General of Police (IGP), George Akuffo Dampare’s response to the British High Commissioner, Harriet Thompson, over her tweet on the arrest of Fix The Country Convener, Oliver Barker–Vormawor was unnecessary.
In an interview with Starr FM, KSM, said the IGP should have channeled his response through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
According to him, the IGP’s four-page letter was an overreaction and an unnecessary needless response to the diplomat’s social media comment.
According to him, the tone of the police chief’s letter created ‘a storm in a teacup’.
He added that the protocol should be been considered and allowed to work to avoid straining diplomatic relations between countries.
“We have the Foreign Ministry and if any reason if the IGP is not happy about the tweet, I think he should have passed through the Foreign Ministry,” he said.
Madam Harriet Thompson tweet (dated Tuesday, May 17, 2022) which triggered the IGP’s response read:
“Oliver Barker–Vormawor, convener of the #FixTheCountry movement, arrested again, I understand it’s for a motoring offense and he is currently on his way to court. I’ll be interested to see where this goes”
