In what sounds like one of his own jokes, veteran comedian, Kwaku Danquah aka Ice Kenkey reportedly died after consuming pizza.
This revelation was made by his close friend and business partner, Owusu Ansah, who claims that he was with him the moment the incident happened on Thursday, June 9, 2022.
According to Mr, Owusu Ansah, Ice Kenkey, who owned a Travel and Tour business in Accra, had gone to buy pizza earlier in the day. He said the former comedian, while eating the pizza, started behaving strangely and passed out later.
“On Tuesday, he came to work and found me packing… he went out to buy pizza and came to eat with the children around. He started coughing while eating . It seemed he had choked on it. Before they could bring him water, he had become weak and was rushed to the Lapaz Community Hospital.
He was admitted on Tuesday and on Wednesday we were all there to visit but his condition was bad. he passed away on Thursday at around 1:13 am.”
Mr. Owusu Ansah said Ice Kenkey did not seem to be battling any illness, as he run his business smoothly and travelled to Europe frequently.
Ice Kenkey was one of Ghana’s most successful comedians from the 1990s. His popularity soared through his stand-up performances at the Keysoap Concert Party, which was held weekly at the National Theatre in Accra and broadcast on national television (GTV).
