Rapper Sarkodie is expected to be present at the High Court in Accra on Tuesday June 21, 2022, to answer questions in relation to a case filed against Ghanaian car manufacturing company, Kantanka.
According to the plaintiff, Jude Osei, Sarkodie has Tuesday to appear before the Accra High Court to testify or the Court will issue a bench warrant for his arrest.
Sarkodie was expected to appear before the court on June 13, 2022, to give evidence on behalf of the plaintiff or defendant, but the rapper reportedly failed to go to court.
According to the lawyer of the plaintiff, Felix Nana Osei, Sarkodie has since the court order been avoiding being served with the court document, a situation which has compelled his team to go to his residence.
The court order, as sighted in photographs, was pasted on a gate in a house the rapper lives in.
The case:
Sarkodie was summoned by an Accra High Court to testify in a case brought forward by one Jude Osei (the plaintiff) who has sued Kantanka Automobile.
On July 13, Sarkodie is scheduled to testify in front of the High Court on behalf of either the plaintiff or the defendant.
A lawsuit has been filed against Kantanka Automobile and Kwadwo Safo Jnr. over a failed social media promise made on Twitter via the handle, kantanka_daily.
Plaintiff Jude Osei claimed in a writ issued on May 14, 2019, that he received a message on a Kantaka Automobile private message telling him to share an image of a Kantaka Automobile car on Twitter and that if he could obtain 30,000 retweets, he would be given a Kantanka Mensa automobile.
Jude Osei was able to reach almost 30,000 retweets after almost a year.
He then wrote a message to Kantanka asking for his reward, but Kantanka Automobile issued a disclaimer stating that any tweet offering 30,000 retweets for Kantanka Mensa should be considered a fake.
Jude Osei expressed his dissatisfaction with the company’s silence, and the fact that it did not publish a disclaimer for almost a year when the promo was ongoing, only announcing it when he had been successful in his campaign to secure over 30,000 retweets.
Jude Osei’s lawyer, Felix Nana Osei, insists that the Kantanka_daily isn’t could not be phoney because it was once used to tweet a message to Sarkodie, to which the rapper replied.
Subsequently, CEO of the Company, Kwadwo Kantanka Jnr, who has the same Twitter handle as Kantanka_daily, also retweeted the tweet, by the same account they now claim is fake.
He says the corporation should not have delayed over a year to provide a disclaimer, even if the account was fraudulent.
They are seeking, among other things, a declaration that the defendants caused, allowed, or permitted me @kantanka_daily Twitter account to carry itself as an agent of the 1st Defendant at all material times, damages for breach of contract, and a declaration that @kantanka_daily entered into a valid contract with the Plaintiff to the Defendants’ knowledge.
