Highlife veteran, Ofori Amponsah has explained how he helped fellow artistes to produce hit songs with his lyrics without charging them money.
Speaking in an interview TV XYZ, Ofori Amponsah said that he wrote for all the singers he worked with, including Kofi B, Kofi Nti and Daddy Lumba.
He said “Odo Mmra Fie,” which is credited to Daddy Lumba, was his own composition which he allowed Lumba to own.
According to him, even though he wrote all of Kofi B’s major hit songs, Kofi B refused to acknowledge his contribution to his career while he was alive.
The former Ghana Music Awards Artist of the Year said he started seeking sponsorship for Kofi B to launch his career, while he himself hadn’t had his breakthrough in the Ghanaian music scene.
He added that he housed Kofi B in a room Daddy Lumba gave him at Dome in Accra and helped him to produce his first album, which had the popular hit song ‘Mmobrowa’.
Ofori Amponsah said he wrote lyrics for artistes he collaborated with because he believed that doing so could help to bring out variety in songs.
He added that he allowed Kofi B and Kofi Nti to own the songs he wrote for them because he wanted them to become known in the industry.
