Young nurses have been advised to concentrate on saving lives by desisting from actions which go contrary to their code of ethics.
According to the Bono Regional Chief Nursing and Midwifery Officer, Mad. Emily Ama Oduro, acts such as twerking on social media does not speak well of the profession, which is associated with decency and nobility.
Madam Oduro, who was speaking at the regional commemoration of International Nurses Day event held in Sunyani, urged nurses to take advantage of the Internet to educate themselves to enable them to become more productive in the health sector.
In attendance were nurses and midwives from Bono, Ahafo, and Bono East regions.
Being an experienced nursing officer, Madam Oduro, condemned acts such as twerking in uniform, and complained that it is bringing the reputation of nurses in disrepute, making the public lose respect for them.
The theme for this year’s International Nurses Day is “Nurses and Midwives: A voice to lead, investing in nurses and respecting nurses’ right to safeguard global health.”
