“Be true to yourself” is the catchphrase of the largest teen movement currently active in Ghana– Sky Girls. With many noticeable billboards in the neighbourhood, t-shirts, movies, and social media profiles, this article seeks to answer your questions and satisfy your curiosity.

SKY Girls is a community of teen girls dedicated to fostering self-esteem and confidence. We are all about empowering girls to stay true to themselves and their beliefs by encouraging them to pursue healthy interests and say no to harmful habits, particularly those caused by peer pressure. We focus our communication on what helps teen girls become better versions of themselves, such as discovering their true identity and saying “no” to things they can do without or that make them uncomfortable, such as smoking.

SKY Girls is a safe haven for all JHS and SHS teen girls. Short activations are frequently organised in schools to inform girls about SKY, and we reach out to those who are not in school through our community activations. Typically, activations include an introduction to SKY, movie screenings, magazine distributions, fun competitions, parties, and a SKY song sing-along!

This month, SKY Girls Ghana launched the ‘We Choose’ campaign. This is a call to action for girls to affirm their choices and encourage them to pursue options that allow them to remain true to themselves. We’re basically giving teen girls the tools to confidently choose and declare the things that have a positive impact on them, and to boldly denounce those that have a negative impact on them.

We released a SKY song called ‘Unstoppable’ a few years ago, and this year we’re back with another banger called ‘We Choose.’ Chayuta, one of Ghana’s young and talented songbirds, is featured in this song. This new anthem aims to unite the SKY Girls behind an empowering message. Because our girls adore music and are quick to pick up new lyrics and dance moves, there is no doubt that this song will quickly become a hit.

Chayuta, born Layla Mpho Mokoena, is a rising Ghanaian singer. The 18-year-old has been dubbed “Ghana’s Rihanna.” She performed the ‘We Choose’ song at the SKY Takeover party in Accra on Saturday, August 6th, which brought together over 3,000 SKY Girls to have fun and bond while reaffirming their decisions and encouraging them to pursue choices that are true to them.

Stream the ‘We Choose’ song on Deezer, Apple Music, Audiomack and more and tell a teen girl out there to tell another teen girl somewhere to join the biggest teen girl community in Ghana.

Most importantly, remind them to STAY TRUE TO THEMSELVES!
