One Ghanaian boxer who has been arrested many times for causing mayhem to people is former Ghanaian professional boxer Braimah Isaac Kamoko also known as Bukom Banku.
Bukom Banku first rose to prominence by winning a bronze medal in the Heavyweight 1999 All-Africa Games organized in Johannesburg, South Africa in September 1999.
However, after showing so many prospects, even though until 2017 he had never suffered a Technical Knockout, Banku has failed to live up to expectations.
Instead of throwing punches at a competitor in a boxing ring in order to win a world title for Ghana, Banku has rather cleaved the habit of assaulting ordinary persons outside the ring.
In this regard, Ghanaweekend.com has picked up five instances where the popular boxer had been arrested for unleashing mayhem on people.
1. On November 17, 2014 Bukom Banku together with his son were arrested by the Jamestown Police for assaulting a 28-year-old footballer.
2. In that same year, he went into the grips of the police for allegedly beating up and injuring people at Bukom in Accra and also vandalising properties in the area.
3. In March 2016, he was arrested and arraigned before court for assaulting three women. He was arrested after one of them allegedly rejected his request to have sex with him. He was later granted bail in the sum of GH¢5000 and also with two sureties.
4. In 2018, he was arrested for assaulting a businessman in his area, Jamestown. The incident happened after the businessman had whipped the boxer’s 14-year-old son for refusing to stop making a lot of noise while conversing with his friend.
5. The former lightweight boxing champion of Ghana, on December 12, 2022, was ordered by an Accra Circuit Court to spend a week in police custody for abetment of crime.
Together with his son, Banku has been accused of damaging a house that belongs to one Prosper Quaye in Bukom and stabbing him in the abdomen with a bottle together with his son.
