Christians across the World will expect UK-based Ghanaian Afro-Gospel musician Joseph Matthew to be a Christian since he is a Gospel musician.

But the award-winning Afro-Gospel musician has defied that perception. According to him,  he doesn’t belong to the Christian religion.

The ‘Nyame Ye’ crooner affirmed that he follows the teachings of Jesus Christ hence he would rather be called a “Child of God’ than referred to as a Christian. “As the scripture says in John 1:12 – But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God. not Christians”. He quoted

Joseph Matthew who was speaking in an interview with Citi FM/TV’s entertainment news website Ghanaweekend.com accentuated candidly that a Christian is an individual who belongs to a religious group called Christianity.

He emphasized that the Christian religion is not exactly what the Kingdom of God is about but whoever believes in the Kingdom of God will be called a Child of God.

The ‘Blessed’ hitmaker added, “We are living in a generation where we are seeking the truth. We are tired of being told what to do. Now we can get the scriptures ,we can learn it ourselves” .

Joseph Matthew’s type of Christian music expresses everything about the gospel of Christ like any other gospel song, but it has got rap and pop culture added to it.

His current hit song ‘Blessed’ has been tipped by most entertainment pundits to win the ‘Record of the Year’ award at the 2023 Vodafone Ghana Music awards.

The song reminds Christians, no matter the challenges we may go through, our victory is assured and also there is power in the name of God.
