Prolific actor Treat Williams of Stage and Screen, Dies at 71

Treat Williams, a prolific actor who starred in films such as Hair and Everwood, died Monday in a motorcycle accident in Vermont. He was 71.

Williams was riding his motorcycle when he was struck by an SUV turning left, according to Vermont State Police. He was airlifted to Albany Medical Center in Albany, New York, where he was pronounced dead.

Williams had a long and successful career in film, television, and theater. He made his film debut in 1979 in Hair, in which he played the role of George Berger. He went on to appear in films such as 1941, Once Upon a Time in America, and Deep Rising.

On television, Williams starred in the series Everwood from 2002 to 2006. He also had roles in Chesapeake Shores, Blue Bloods, and Chicago Fire.

Williams was nominated for an Emmy Award for his performance in the 1996 TV movie The Late Shift. He also received three Golden Globe nominations during the 1980s.

Williams was born in Connecticut in 1951. He is survived by his wife, Pam Van Sant, and two children.

Tributes poured in for Williams following his death.

 

“Treat Williams was a wonderful actor and a kind man,” said director Steven Spielberg. “He will be missed.” “Treat Williams was a true original,” said actor Wendell Pierce. “He was a passionate and creative artist, and his work will live on for generations.”

Williams’ death is a great loss to the world of entertainment. He was a talented actor who brought joy to millions of people. He will be remembered for his work on stage, screen, and television.
