Five songs that prove Joseph Matthew is ‘King’ of Afro-gospel music [Video]

In recent years, there has been a growing interest in Afro Gospel music, a genre that fuses traditional Ghanaian music with gospel.

One of the pioneers of Afro-Gospel music in Ghana is Joseph Matthew. Matthew has been making music for over a decade, and his songs have been popular both in Ghana and abroad.

In 2020, he released his song ,”Nyame Y3” which helped to popularize the genre in Ghana. The success of “Nyame Y3“ led to a wave of new Afro Gospel artists emerging in Ghana. These artists include Evans Scott, Kneeded, Lucky Ekeh, Kingzkid, Fresh Joy Music, and many others.

The growing popularity of Afro Gospel music has been met with mixed reactions. Some people have praised the genre for its innovative sound, while others have criticized it for being too commercial. However, there is no doubt that Afro Gospel music is here to stay.

In this article, Ghanaweekend profiles five songs by Joseph Matthew that make him the new ‘King’ of Afro-gospel music. All the songs were engineered by Francis Osei. The Videos were also directed by Martin Sean .

1. “Nyame Y3”(God Is Good)

2. My Story

This song is a personal reflection on Matthew’s journey with God. It tells the story of his struggles and his triumphs, and how God has been with him through it all. The song has been praised for its honest lyrics and its relatable message.

 

3. Not Alone

This song is a message of hope and encouragement for those who are feeling lost or alone. It reminds listeners that they are not alone in their struggles, and that God is always with them. The song has been praised for its comforting message and its catchy melody.

4. The Name

This song is a celebration of the name of Jesus. It exalts the name of Jesus as the most powerful name in the world. The song has been praised for its powerful lyrics and its uplifting message.

 

 

5. Blessed

This song is a celebration of God’s blessings. It is a reminder that God has blessed us abundantly, and that we should be grateful for all that we have. It also reminds us that we are already blessed and don’t need holy water on our heads before realising this.

The song has been praised for its catchy melody and its uplifting message.Blessed soared to the second spot on most of the gospel music charts when it was released in 2022.

It is heavily tipped to win Matthew awards at it this year’s National Gospel Music Awards and the Ghana Music Awards UK

 

With these five songs, Joseph Matthew has established himself as a force to be reckoned with in the Ghanaian gospel music scene.

His unique blend of traditional Ghanaian music with gospel has won him fans all over the world. As he prepares to release his new song, “Promise Land,” it is clear that he is only just getting started.

Promise Land’ is set to hit the airwaves from July 7,2023.
