Renowned Ghanaian actor Fiifi Coleman has criticised the use of young actors to play the role of the elderly in Ghanaian movies.

The famous actor who is the CEO of Fiifi Coleman Productions will be staging his first play under his own productions at the National Theatre on Saturday, July 29, 2023 dubbed ‘A Dilemma Of a Ghost’

The stage play features legendary Ghanaian actors such as Fred Amugi, Adjetey Anang, Naa Ashorkor and Brew Riverson Jr.

In an interview on Citi TV’s BreakfastDaily to promote the upcoming stage play, Fiifi Coleman while explaining why he chose to cast veterans like Fred Amugi and Brew Riverson Jr. said:

“Boys who are painted to look like old people in movies…We Know..but not that the veteran actors are not there; they’re  there…they never went anywhere…We just refuse to go back to them because we feel we see new faces with million followers and they could sell more, so we pick the small boys, we make them old to play the old roles.”

He explained extensively that using young actors to play the role of the elderly is not only unrealistic, but the practice is “falling short of standards” and that it is disrespectful to the elderly.

The CEO of Fiifi Coleman Productions called on movie producers and directors to start using more elderly actors in their films. He said that this would help to improve the quality of Ghanaian movies.
