The funeral of Rev. Anthony Boakye, the founder and general overseer of the Resurrection Power New Generation Church, has been halted after his wife, Rev. Mrs. Margaret Boakye, obtained a court injunction.

The injunction was granted by the Kumasi High Court on Tuesday, August 1, 2023, after Rev. Mrs. Boakye filed a petition alleging that she had been prevented from attending the funeral planning meetings and that her rights as a widow were being violated.

The petition also alleged that Rev. Boakye’s family was trying to take control of the church and the assets of the deceased pastor. The court ordered that the funeral be halted until the matter is resolved.

Rev. Mrs. Boakye said she was happy with the court’s decision and that she would continue to fight for her rights.

“I am glad that the court has granted my petition,” she said. “I am the rightful widow of Rev. Boakye and I deserve to be involved in the funeral arrangements. I will not rest until my rights are fully restored.”

The case is scheduled to be heard again on August 15, 2023.

Background

Rev. Anthony Boakye died on February 21, 2023, after a protracted illness. He was 65 years old.

Rev. Boakye was a popular pastor and his church had a large following. He was also a controversial figure and had been accused of financial impropriety.

After his death, there were a number of disagreements between his family, his church, and his wife. These disagreements led to the court injunction being granted.

The Future

It is unclear what will happen next in this case. The court will hear the case again on August 15, 2023, and it is possible that the injunction will be lifted.
