The +233 Jazz Bar & Grill in Accra was filled with cheers as 74-year-old legendary traditional singer Naa Amanua of the Wulomei band fame took the stage at this year’s Homowo concert on Wednesday, August 30.

The legendary Ghanaian traditional musician had been a crowd favourite for decades, and her fans were eager to see her perform.

Naa Amanua did not disappoint. She started her set with a bang, performing her hit songs

The crowd sang along and danced to the beat, and her energy was infectious. She continued to perform back-to-back hits, her voice strong and clear. She spent over 20 minutes on stage.

Her coordination with the Lipstick band was sumptuous. She danced and twirled around the stage, her movements graceful and effortless.

The crowd was awed by her performance. They were particularly amazed by her energy and stamina. After her performance, the legendary songstress was met with a standing ovation.

She was visibly moved by the crowd’s reaction, and she took a moment to thank them for their support.

She was also honoured on the night with a citation. She was recognised for her contributions to the music industry, particularly her work in promoting traditional Ghanaian music.

Patrons who spoke to GhanaWeekend after her performance were grateful to have the opportunity to see her live. According to them, she is an inspiration.

The concert was a sensory overload, with the sounds of Ga music and dance filling the air, and the sights of colourful costumes.

Highlife legend Adane Best, Adotey Tetor, Epixode, and Lady Talata also performed on the night.

Homowo is a festival celebrated by the Ga people, and it is a time to give thanks for the harvest and to celebrate the victory over hunger.
