The second edition of the Hoodtalk Music concert came off at the Jubilee Park in Tamale on Saturday, September 30 2023.
September 2’s amazing concert at Ashiyie was a tough act to follow but organisers, the DreamChild Foundation and Virtual Hub pulled it off and went one better, treating residents of the Northern Regional capital to some great music and performances.
The night was a celebration of the indigenous culture and also platform for the local talents to thrill a wider audience.
Performances from a wide array of artistes, including ‘Sama Noli’ hitmaker Bala Zaaku, Bamaaya, Rap Dee, Awhite Maiga, Future Ruler, Arnold Dery, Yung Shark, Walugu Lana, and George Cliff among others kept the crowd entertained for the best part of three hours in Tamale.
The night’s M.C., Mr. Tell was a delight, keeping the massive crowd that had gathered for the concert at the Jubilee Park engaged throughout the night.
Speaking on behalf of the Northern Regional Minister, Alhaji Shani Alhassan Shaibu, the Chief Director of the Northern Regional Coordinating Council (NRCC), Alhaji Alhassan Issahaku thanked the DreamChild Foundation for their efforts in the region and for organising the concert.
“This is really the place to be in Tamale tonight. We are very grateful to the patrons for being here. Indeed this is a night for fun and merry-making and you must enjoy yourself. Beyond the fun and merry-making we need to reflect on why we are here. The concern is about our health and the health of our children. Health is priceless and the health of our young ones is even more so,” he said.
“Any nation that does not recognise the health of its people cannot think of prosperity and development. As we celebrate. We must thank DreamChild for what they are doing. We must reflect on tonight’s event and support DreamChild Foundation and support them in putting up a pediatric hospital in Savelugu. If we’re able to get it right, we’ll be able to secure the future of our young ones, and if they have a future, we all have a future.”
Henry E. U. Mungho, a representative of the Chairman of the Dream Child Foundation said: “This concert is for the African child. We have been doing this in Accra and other places to help the African child have good education, good healthcare and better lives so that they will not hawk on the streets, not be abused and not used as child labour. To all Ghanaians, Nigerians and Ivorians, your support is very important [for this project]. The Chairman, Chief Olorogun Oskar Ibru, will not stop until the African child is given a better life.”
The concert is the second of the HoodTalk Music Festival, a groundbreaking initiative focused on promoting child wellness and youth empowerment in Africa.
The Festival is meant to help unite voices for the betterment of the African child and also help empower and support African children by harnessing the power of music, and arts through community engagement.
The organisers, the DreamChild Foundation aim to raise a provisional sum of $14 million for the construction of five Pediatric Clinics to ensure that children’s health is made a priority.
The next concert is on October 7 at the Baba Yara Stadium. The other announced concert venues and dates are the Western Region on October 28, at the Gyandu Park, and Ho on November 19, at the Ho Sports Stadium.
