The top 50 candidates in the 2024 edition of Citi FM/Channel One TV’s ‘Literacy Challenge for Junior High School Students’ have been revealed.

The selected candidates are expected to write an Aptitude Test scheduled for Saturday, July 27, 2024, at the Accra Digital Centre at 12: 00 pm.

Launched on May 16, 2024, Citi FM/Channel One TV’s Literacy Challenge offers a reward of GH¢10,000 and a trophy to the most outstanding student.

The deadline for submission of all essays was Saturday, July 13, 2024. Interested contestants were tasked to write an essay on the topic “In not less than 600 words, write about the role of the youth in shaping the future of Ghana. What changes would you like to see, and how can young people contribute to making them happen?”

Contestants were required to ensure that their scripts were handwritten and endorsed by their parents.

Announcing the top 50 candidates on the Citi Breakfast Show on Citi FM, Head of Programmes Production for Citi FM/Channel One TV, Apiorkor Seyiram Ashong-Abbey, explained that Citi FM/Channel One TV aims to get the Ghanaian youth involved in effecting changes in society, hence the topic.

She expressed concern that the country will be doomed if the youth are not conscientised about the country’s issues.

She added that the top 50 candidates brilliantly delivered on the assigned topic, describing it as a “joy” to read their scripts.

She also highlighted the key criteria that the examiners looked out for, including accuracy, evidence of research, and originality.

‘The Literacy Challenge’ identifies and rewards the most outstanding JHS students in the country after a series of rigorous tests.

The Literacy Challenge 2024 is powered by Channel One TV, supported by Citi FM and is sponsored by Ghana National Gas Company, Alife Soap, Fortune Spread, M4 Food and PGL.

Dzikunu Nelson Armstrong of the Jireh International School at Ashaiman emerged winner of the 2023 edition
