The Holy Spirit is not in gospel songs written by secular artistes-Lenny Akpadie

Popular Ghanaian gospel musician, Lenny Akpadie has made a controversial claim with the assertion that gospel songs written by secular artistes lack the presence of the Holy Spirit.

He strongly disagrees with the idea, viewing it as a misguided decision that undermines the sacred nature of gospel music.

Speaking on Joy Prime on Tuesday, Lenny, who is known for the hit song, ‘You Are the Most High’ noted that secular musicians lack the divine inspiration and spiritual backing to craft songs that are truly infused with the spirit, unlike gospel ministers who are anointed to spread the word of God through music.

Therefore, he will never give a chance to any artiste to write his songs since he is guided by the Holy Spirit.

“Those gospel musicians missed it. You can’t write me a song; where is the Holy Spirit? You see, it’s a defilement. The Holy Ghost is our teacher, and I receive songs from the Holy Ghost,” he said.

For him, the messenger is as important as the message, and so gospel ministers should deliver what is within them because the lyrics of the song define their beliefs.

Interestingly, some popular secular musicians including Kuami Eugene and Kwabena Kwabena have written songs for gospel artistes.

For instance, Ohemaa Mercy’s Ote Me Mu and Joyce Blessing’s Victory were written by Kwabena Kwabena and Kuami Eugene respectively.
