A dusty but well-set-up school park became the scene of hope and transformation as over 16,000+ children, women, and men eagerly gathered as early as 2 am to receive medical care, back-to-school supplies, and more.

This was the scene at this year’s LifeCheck, the social outreach program of the Empowerment Worship Centre (EWC). Spearheaded by the Empowerment Care Foundation, under the leadership of its Global Lead Pastor, Pastor Gideon Danso, LifeCheck 2024 delivered on its promise to reach out to the community and the needy with “Compassion to Make a Difference”.

Held at Camp 2 School Park, Teshie, LifeCheck saw people trooping in from the neighbouring areas as well as Tse Addo, Baatsonaa, Nungua and the Spintex Road community.

Inspired by the vision of Pastor Gideon Danso, LifeCheck has been transforming lives in tangible ways through a comprehensive outreach programme that provides free medical services including eye care, dental care, ultrasound scans, minor surgical procedures, and free medication.

Laboratory services were available for hepatitis B, malaria, prostrate conditions, typhoid, and blood sugar. About 500 people were also registered with the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), for free.

A blood donation drive saw many EWC church volunteers donating more than 50 pints to the National Blood Bank.

LifeCheck’s Back-to-School arm saw over 11,000 children and distributed over 100,000 exercise books, 4000+ school bags and stationery items. They gave out 5,200 shoes to very grateful kids. Almost 100 kids were barbered and cleaned up, ready for the new school year. More than 10,000 families enjoyed free meals as well.

According to Pastor Gideon Danso, LifeCheck is EWC’s way of “ being the arms and feet of Jesus.” This year’s LifeCheck theme, COMPASSION TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE, is taken from Jude 1:22 and was evident in the dedication and level of involvement of the LifeCheckTeam volunteers while they served and interacted with people from the communities.

In all, 500 volunteers participated in LifeCheck2024 – made up of EWC church members. This year also saw over 100 medical personnel volunteering their time and expertise.

Speaking with a volunteer, she revealed that LifeCheck is not only a blessing to the communities they serve, but through LifeCheck she gets to be blessed by being a part of something bigger than herself with far-reaching impact; far-reaching impact on the grateful mothers, children, men and women who flocked to LifeCheck 2024. “It’s a blessing to be in a church that allows you to give and bless others.”

The one-day annual medical and educational outreach was held on Saturday, September 28th and wrapped up at around 4 pm.

This is the 10th year LifeCheck is being held and since its inception, more than 52,000 people have attended, 28,000+ people received medical care, over 52,000 individuals were fed, and over 32,000 children were given back-to-school items.

More than 11,000 have been registered on the NHIS and these figures exclude this year’s target of 15,000 which was exceeded.
