Ghanaian highlife legend George Jahraa delivered a magnificent performance at the 2024 African Legends Night concert, but his choice of song sparked controversy.

George Jahraa known for his controversial and socially conscious lyrics, took to the stage following Adane Best’s performance.

He immediately reignited the entire auditorium with his rendition of his controversial hit song “Driver Banza.” Released decades ago, “Driver Banza” was initially perceived as a road safety campaign song.

However, its lyrics have been subject to various interpretations in the run-up to the December 7 general elections. The legendary Highlife musician’s decision to perform “Driver Banza” at the African Legends Night concert caught many by surprise.

While some view it as a cautionary tale about the dangers of reckless driving, others have criticized its content for what GhanaWeekend can’t explain.

Regardless of the reactions, George Jahraa’s performance was one of the most outstanding performances on the night.

After skidding off the road with ‘Driver Banza’, he then positioned himself superlatively with a rendition of his other monster hit songs including ‘Ashikele’.
