Afrobeat singer Rema has achieved a monumental mark as his hit song “Calm Down” remix featuring Selena Gomez surpasses 1 billion views on YouTube.

This new achievement cements its position as the most-viewed Nigerian song on the platform.

This feat was accomplished on November 9, 2024, just over two years after the video’s premiere on September 7, 2022.

The song’s unparalleled success extends to Spotify, where it became the first Nigerian song to surpass 1 billion streams.

In the United States, “Calm Down” was the first Nigerian song to accumulate a billion streams.

It peaked at No. 3 on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart and spent over a year on it, solidifying its status as the highest-charting Afrobeats song in its history.

Rema’s global superstardom was further underscored by headline concerts in India and the Middle East, where the song topped the charts.

The song earned Rema the 2023 VMAs for Best Afrobeats and boasts an impressive 7X RIAA platinum certification, making it the second most certified RIAA plaque.
