Beatrix Obeng-Sackey, the Executive Director and Founder of Mad Women Agency, has called on the Minister of Tourism, Culture, and Creative Arts, Abla Dzifa Gomashie, to prioritise collaborations with the 16 Regional Ministers and other key stakeholders to enhance Ghana’s tourism potential.

Speaking on The Chat on Channel One TV on Saturday, January 25, Ms. Obeng-Sackey stressed that collaboration at the regional level is crucial for the development and promotion of tourist sites and infrastructure across the country.

In her remarks, Ms. Obeng-Sackey outlined a clear roadmap for achieving meaningful progress in Ghana’s tourism sector, emphasising the need for improved infrastructure and a stronger connection between the Ministry of Tourism, the Tourism Board, and local authorities.

Ms. Obeng-Sackey highlighted the strategic role Regional Ministers can play in addressing key challenges faced by the tourism sector.

According to her, these officials are well-positioned to provide valuable insights and feedback on local needs and priorities, particularly in terms of infrastructure development.

“There must be collaborations with the Regional Ministers and the Tourism Board because they are in the various regions and should be able to give a lot more feedback in terms of roads and infrastructure.

“There are so many places in Ghana that you will want to visit, but then based on the mode of transportation and how long it takes, people may not want to go there, and so I think it is a case of collaboration with the Regional Ministers to work with the Tourism Board to then boost some little things.”

Obeng-Sackey also noted that many of Ghana’s tourist attractions remain underutilised due to poor road networks and inadequate transportation options, which she said deter both domestic and international tourists.
