Rodney “Darkchild” Jerkins, the producer behind some of the most defining R&B and pop hits of the 2000s, is set to be inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame. He will be honoured at the 2025 Induction and Awards Gala, which will take place on June 12 at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in New York City.

Jerkins, whose signature production style helped shape modern R&B, joins a distinguished list of inductees, including George Clinton, The Doobie Brothers (Tom Johnston, Michael McDonald, Patrick Simmons), Ashley Gorley, Mike Love, and Tony Macaulay.

With a career spanning more than 25 years, Jerkins has worked with some of the biggest names in music, from Michael Jackson and Beyoncé to Brandy, Mary J. Blige, and Jennifer Lopez. His production credits include a string of global hits, among them “Say My Name” (Destiny’s Child), “The Boy Is Mine” (Brandy & Monica), “You Rock My World” (Michael Jackson), “Déjà Vu” (Beyoncé), and “Telephone” (Lady Gaga & Beyoncé).

Chairman of the Songwriters Hall of Fame, Nile Rodgers, described this year’s inductees as “songwriters who have enriched the lives of billions of listeners around the world.” He added, “Without songwriters, there is no recorded music, no concerts, no fans. It all starts with the song.”

Jerkins’ work has left a lasting imprint on contemporary music, seamlessly blending R&B, hip-hop, and pop to create a distinct sound that dominated the charts for over a decade. His induction recognises not just his success but his enduring influence on the industry.

Founded in 1969, the Songwriters Hall of Fame celebrates those whose compositions have helped shape modern music. Eligibility for induction requires at least 20 years of significant songwriting contributions. Jerkins’ place among its ranks confirms his status as one of the most influential producers of his generation.
