Renowned Ghanaian filmmaker Peter Sedufia has revealed that he was unaware of the 14th edition of the Ghana Movie Awards until the day the event took place.
Peter Sedufia said his unexpected discovery came through a conversation with his Nigerian co-producer, who had traveled to Ghana for the awards ceremony, which took place on Saturday, January 18, at the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC).
The Ghana Movie Awards, an annual event designed to celebrate outstanding contributions to Ghana’s movie industry, brings together the nation’s most prominent filmmakers, actors, and other stakeholders.
However, Sedufia, one of Ghana’s celebrated directors and producers, was notably absent and unaware of the event.
Speaking on Upside Down on Channel One TV, Peter Sedufia recounted his surprise at learning about the awards through his Nigerian co-producer.
He explained that the realisation came when his co-producer, who worked on his film One Night Guest, informed him that he had been nominated for his movie Tokunbo.
“I was not at the Ghana Movie Awards, and I didn’t even know about it. I only got to know about the awards scheme on the day of the awards because my co-producer from Nigeria for my film, One Night Guest, was nominated for his movie Tokunbo, and he was the one who told me that he was in Ghana for the awards scheme.
“I asked Fred Nuamah [the CEO], and he gave me a reasonable excuse as to why it happened and whether it is genuine or not, that is what he said. He said that the place they were having the awards was close to where they were doing the government transition [Black Star Square], and it became a security zone and that crowd would not be allowed.”
