A Lifelong Musical Journey
Growing up in a single-parent household with three siblings, music was a constant companion. His mother played a pivotal role in nurturing his musical gifts, buying him a guitar and encouraging all her children to explore their musical talents.
His early experiences included playing drums in church and attending a classical Saturday music school, alongside various school and summer music programs.
Despite earning a university degree in Development Studies and Anthropology, J Appiah found himself drawn back to music. He immersed himself in London’s vibrant open mic scene, eventually landing opportunities to work in the music industry as a backing vocalist for major artists, including Burna Boy. This exposure to professional musicianship has shaped his artistry and solidified his presence in the industry.
A Soundtrack to Life
J Appiah’s music is deeply influenced by the diverse sounds he has encountered throughout his life. He does not confine himself to a single genre but instead views music as a soundtrack to different life moments. His artistic approach is a fusion of the sounds he grew up with, incorporating elements of band music, indie rock, reggae, soul, punk, and highlife. Roots in Ghana
Though raised in the UK, J Appiah maintains strong ties to Ghana, particularly Kumasi, where his mother hails from. His exposure to highlife and hiplife music played a crucial role in shaping his sonic identity. Growing up in London’s multicultural environment also meant he was surrounded by Ghanaian culture, further deepening his connection to his heritage.
His musical journey in Ghana is still in its early stages, but he has already collaborated with some of the country’s most respected artists, including E.L, Okyeame Kwame, and Appietus. He hopes to expand his footprint in Ghana’s music scene, creating more projects that fuse his London upbringing with his Ghanaian heritage.

A pivotal moment in his career was partnering with Vero Music, a collaboration that has provided him with the support to further develop his unique sound. This partnership has enabled him to bring his creative ideas to life, ensuring that his music remains an authentic reflection of his experiences.
