Ghanaian actor, teacher, and preacher Kenneth Senyo Fiati has expressed deep admiration and gratitude for the late renowned playwright Efo Kodjo Mawugbe, revealing that his own passion for writing was nurtured under the legendary writer’s guidance.

Speaking on The Chat on Channel One TV, where he was reviewing Efo Kodjo Mawugbe’s acclaimed play In the Chest of a Woman, Ken Fiati stated that he takes immense pride whenever he speaks about his mentor.

He acknowledged that Efo Kodjo Mawugbe played a crucial role in shaping his writing abilities, encouraging him to explore his creativity and refine his craft.

Recalling his experiences, Ken Fiati shared that Efo Kodjo Mawugbe regarded him as one of his sons, a special privilege that allowed him to learn directly from the playwright.

He further explained that while training a group of performers, he disclosed to them one of the greatest secrets to his craft—the importance of being nurtured in the art of writing by Efo Kodjo Mawugbe.

He added that he never got the chance to present his first full-length play to Efo Kodjo Mawugbe, as the playwright fell ill around that time and eventually passed away before he could review it.

“I must say that I boast when I have to talk about Efo Kodjo Mawugbe because I am one of those he called his sons because I got the opportunity to grow around him where he actually was the one who inspired me to start to write.

“I was training a group of performers and I was telling them one secret to my craft, and it is that I allowed myself to be nurtured in the art of writing, and unfortunately, my first full-length play that I was presenting to him was the time he was not well, and he never recovered until God called him to rest.”
