Joe Tacopina highlights moments from A$AP Rocky’s assault trial

Prominent US attorney Joe Tacopina has shed light on the recently concluded assault trial involving rapper A$AP Rocky.

Speaking on The Breakfast Club, Tacopina detailed how he dismantled the prosecution’s case, particularly by exposing inconsistencies in the testimony of A$AP Relli, the alleged victim.

Tacopina alleged that Relli whose real name is Terrel Ephron had committed perjury multiple times, which ultimately weakened the prosecution’s case. The defense team scrutinised Relli’s phone records, unearthing call logs, videos, and messages that contradicted his statements in court. One key revelation was footage from the day of the alleged shooting, where Relli claimed to have sustained injuries. However, Tacopina presented evidence showing that Relli had visited a shooting range that same day, contradicting his claim that he had not handled a firearm. Additionally, a recording admitted in court reportedly captured Relli saying he would “disappear to an island” if given $30 million. Despite denying the claim, a witness corroborated that the statement had been made.

Responding to suggestions that Rihanna’s presence in court was a tactical move to sway jurors, Tacopina dismissed the claim. He explained that the jury was already aware of A$AP Rocky’s family and insisted the decision was personal rather than strategic. He also noted that emotional reactions from jurors during his closing arguments indicated that his case had made a significant impact.

Tacopina, known for his work with high-profile clients, has represented figures such as Michael Jackson, Sticky Fingaz, Rakim, Foxy Brown, and US President Donald Trump. He credited much of his early success to the late Johnnie Cochran, who had personally invited him to collaborate following the O.J. Simpson trial.

Tacopina also addressed his work with Roc Nation and distanced himself from Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs’ ongoing legal issues. He criticised Combs’ legal team for allowing Cassie’s lawyers to file a criminal lawsuit before settling the case, suggesting that it could be perceived as an admission of guilt and may have encouraged further claims.

With a career defined by high-profile cases, Tacopina who has earned the name A$AP Joe continues to cement his reputation as a formidable legal figure within the entertainment industry and beyond.
