Renowned playwright and poet Chief Moomen is calling on Ghanaians to take an active role in preserving and promoting indigenous culture.
Through his excellent stage productions, he seeks to bring our Ghanaian history to life, inspiring the younger generation to connect with their roots.
In an interview with GhanaWeekend, Chief Moomen emphasised the power of storytelling in shaping Ghana’s national identity.
“It’s about the narrative we build. If we continue to perpetuate a defective narrative about our continent, we won’t go anywhere,” he declared.
For Chief Moomen, theatre is more than just entertainment—it is a tool to educate, motivate, and inspire.
Speaking on his passion for the arts, he shared that it is like a messianic role as a storyteller to inspire the young generation.
He added that it is about understanding where you have been, where you are and where you are going.
Chief Moomen also shared insights about his latest stage play titled; “Mansa Musa: A Trail of Lost Gold,” following the success of his celebrated production, “Wogbejeke”, further cementing his dedication to telling African stories in a way that resonates with today’s youth.
As we reflect on our heritage this month, Chief Moomen urges the next generation to embrace culture and art and patronize it as it will help build our economy and define our identity as a people.
