Wanlov the Kubolor calls for swift action against galamsey

Ghanaian musician and activist Wanlov the Kubolor has taken a firm stance against the ongoing menace of illegal mining, commonly known as galamsey.

Speaking passionately on the issue, Wanlov urged the government to take swift and decisive action to curb the destruction caused by this environmentally devastating practice.

“The government needs to quickly come up with ways to alleviate this galamsey issue,” he stated, expressing deep frustration over the damage inflicted by chanfang machines and harmful chemicals used in illegal mining operations.

Wanlov did not hold back in calling out politicians who remained silent on the matter during the recent elections, accusing them of ignoring the root cause—youth unemployment.

According to him, the lack of job opportunities has turned young people into the driving force behind the galamsey menace.

He also pointed fingers at individuals and institutions whose negligence enables galamsey to thrive.

Recounting a striking observation, he recalled seeing sachets of water being sold with the Ghana Water Company logo printed on the packaging.

He questioned the integrity of those responsible for ensuring safe drinking water, saying, “If your job is to make my water drinkable, how will you do it effectively when you’re selling pure water?”

Wanlov further highlighted the alarming levels of turbidity in Ghana’s rivers, stressing that it could take years for the particles to settle.

More disturbingly, he revealed that up to 70 percent of the nation’s rivers have already been lost to pollution.

He ended with a powerful call to action, urging authorities to step up and restore the country’s water bodies before it was too late.
