The funeral of legendary Ghanaian burger-highlife musician George Darko is scheduled to take place in Akropong from Thursday, April 24, to Monday, April 28, 2025.

Known as the “Burger Highlife King,” Darko reportedly passed away on Wednesday, March 20, 2024.

He was a trailblazer of the burger-highlife genre, a fusion of Ghanaian highlife and Western influences that gained prominence through Ghanaians living in Germany.

Rising to fame in the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s, Darko crafted some of Ghana’s most timeless and beloved highlife tracks.

His contemporaries include notable artists like Ben Brako, C.K. Mann, Daddy Lumba, Ernest Nana Acheampong, Nana Kwame Ampadu, and Pat Thomas.

Among his most popular songs are “Akoo Te Brofo,” “Money Palava,” and “Odo Colour,” which remain enduring staples in Ghanaian music circles.
