Ghana’s Minister for Communications and Digital Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, along with the Executive Secretary of the National Film Authority (NFA), Kafui Danku, have both addressed claims made by Nigerian actress and filmmaker Bimbo Ademoye regarding the alleged illegal airing of her movies by some television networks in Ghana.

Both officials have given their word that measures are being implemented to tackle the situation and uphold intellectual property rights within the country.

“My attention has been drawn to your post thanks to the tag,” Sam George shared via social media platform X. “I would be raising the issue with my colleague Minister responsible for overseeing television content. I, however, wish to assure you that our government is very respectful of intellectual property rights and would ensure the protection of same.”

He further emphasised the longstanding cultural bond between Ghana and Nigeria, adding that greater success could be achieved through cooperation.

In response, Bimbo Ademoye conveyed her gratitude: “Thank you for the honour with your response, sir. I sincerely appreciate it. I look forward to this being done.”

Kafui Danku also weighed in, assuring the actress that swift action was underway.

“Hi ma’am, my management and I are working on putting a stop to this. You should see definite actions in a couple of weeks,” she posted.

Bimbo had earlier taken to her social media pages to criticise certain Ghanaian TV stations for allegedly showing her movies without proper authorization.

The situation has reignited public calls for more robust copyright enforcement across the West African region.

The actress again extended her thanks to Ghanaian officials for responding and urged continued Ghana-Nigeria collaboration to promote and safeguard the rights of content creators.
