‘Show mercy and give Sammy Gyamfi a second chance’ – Sonnie Badu begs Mahama

Renowned gospel musician and preacher, Dr Sonnie Badu, has made a heartfelt appeal to President John Dramani Mahama and his wife, Lordina Mahama, urging them to show leniency toward National Democratic Congress (NDC) National Communications Officer, Sammy Gyamfi, following backlash over a recent controversial video.

In a Facebook post that has since garnered wide attention, Dr Badu pleaded with the first couple to extend mercy to Sammy Gyamfi, who was seen in a circulating video gifting an undisclosed amount to fetish priestess turn evangelist Patricia Asiama, popularly known as Nana Agradaa.

“Dear dad and mum…I greet you in the name of our Lord Jesus,” Badu began, addressing the Mahamas directly. “From the recent video circulating of my brother, please show him mercy.”

He defended Sammy’s actions, explaining that he appeared to be invited to an event and chose to gift the money discreetly — a move Badu believes showed an attempt at caution and respect.

“Unfortunately for him, he was recorded on video. Indeed, in a season such as this, it does not look good,” Badu admitted. “But dad, please, show him mercy and give him a second chance.”

The gospel singer emphasised that offering a blessing in such contexts is not unusual for politicians and stressed the need to uphold peace, unity, and maturity, especially in a politically charged environment.

“To all foot soldiers and other members of the party who are offended, it is understandable, but please show mercy,” he appealed, adding a light-hearted note to Sammy Gyamfi: “And brother, you owe all foot soldiers a make-up party.”
