Veteran Ghanaian actor David Dontoh has shed light on the distinctive production process of the classic Ghanaian film *Deadly Voyage*, explaining how shooting part of the movie in London added to its uniqueness.

In an interview on Channel One TV’s Footprints with Samuel Attah-Mensah, Dontoh revealed that filming initially began in Takoradi, utilising the city’s bustling streets and harbour to establish the film’s dramatic tone.

The production then moved to Tema Harbour, where additional key scenes were shot, capturing the gritty and intense atmosphere of the port.

However, what truly set Deadly Voyage apart, according to Dontoh, was its completion in a London studio.

“What made the production even more unique,” Dontoh noted, “was the decision to complete the film in a London studio.”

He emphasised that this international element gave *Deadly Voyage* an enhanced cinematic feel, making it stand out compared to other productions of its era.

“This cross-continental process was rare then and gave the film a look and feel that distinguished it from others of its time,” he added.

Deadly Voyage is a 1996 thriller based on the true story of Kingsley Ofosu, the sole survivor of a tragic incident involving African stowaways aboard a Ukrainian cargo ship. Directed by John Mackenzie, the film follows a group of Ghanaian stowaways who secretly board the vessel, hoping to reach Europe for a better life. However, their journey turns into a nightmare when the ship’s crew discovers them and resorts to brutal measures to eliminate them one by one.

Starring Omar Epps, Joss Ackland, Sean Pertwee, David Suchet, and David Dontoh, the film captures themes of desperation, survival, and injustice. It highlights the harsh realities of migration and the dangers faced by those seeking better opportunities. *Deadly Voyage* remains a gripping and emotional portrayal of human resilience against cruelty.
