Ghanaian rapper Tulenkey captured widespread attention at the 2025 Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA) on May 10 with a powerful and enigmatic gesture.
Appearing at the event in an all-black suit with his mouth taped shut, he left attendees and online audiences intrigued by the striking visual.
The mystery intensified when Tulenkey, after winning an award, chose not to deliver an acceptance speech, maintaining his silence throughout the moment.
In an interview on 3FM’s 3Lounge with AJ Sarpong, Tulenkey shed light on the meaning behind his bold appearance.
He explained that the taped mouth was a deliberate and symbolic statement about the emotional and mental health struggles men often face in silence.
“It’s a message about what men go through, the inner battles we fight,” he said. “As a man, when you express vulnerability or talk about emotions, you’re seen as weak. So many would rather suffer in silence than open up. The tape symbolised that struggle.”
His unconventional act resonated deeply, sparking meaningful conversations about men’s mental health, a topic often overshadowed by societal expectations.
Addressing how he personally copes with his mental well-being, Tulenkey shared that he relies on meditation and seeks out meaningful conversations with trusted, emotionally mature individuals.
“I meditate and speak to people who are emotionally mature,” he noted, emphasising the importance of finding healthy outlets for emotional expression.
