The Blackstar Festival has been launched at the Accra Tourist Information Centre, with the theme “Ghana Art, Culture, and the Diaspora – Beyond the Return into the Future.”
The festival, the first of its kind aims to strengthen ties between Ghana and its diaspora through music, art, and cultural activities.
Cyril-Alex Gockel, the festival’s Marketing and PR Lead, shared details of the two-part event: the U.S. edition will be held in Washington, D.C. from September 26–28, while the Ghana edition will take place in October.
Both events will feature live music, art exhibitions, cultural showcases, and traditional Ghanaian food.
The Executive Director of the National Commission on Culture, Wakefield Ackuaku, praised the festival for promoting national identity and unity through cultural exchange.
He said it plays an important role in cultural diplomacy and development.
The festival will highlight top Ghanaian creatives, including Ibrahim Mahama, Kwame Akoto-Bamfo, and Kizito, whose work continues to promote Ghana’s culture globally.
The Blackstar Festival promises to be a major platform for celebrating Ghanaian heritage and building connections with the global diaspora.
