Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram, Sam George, has strongly condemned viral photos circulating online that show a same-sex couple posing at Ghana’s Independence Square.

In a statement shared via his official X (formerly Twitter) account, the lawmaker described the act as a blatant show of disrespect to Ghana’s culture, values, and national symbols.

“I have seen numerous tags and posts about the abhorrent disrespect of our culture and values by two ‘useless’ individuals. The disrespect of our national symbols is despicable to say the least,” Sam George stated.

He also took the opportunity to respond to members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) who have called on him to take action, accusing them of hypocrisy. According to him, the current situation is a direct result of the NPP government’s failure to pass and enforce legislation that would protect Ghanaian cultural values.

“I am shocked to see apologists of the NPP calling on me and demanding action. What a shameless lot!” he said, referencing former President Nana Akufo-Addo’s refusal to sign the Family Values Bill into law, despite its approval by both Parliament and the Courts.

Sam George reaffirmed his unwavering stance on the issue, noting that he and his parliamentary colleagues have re-submitted the Family Values Bill, which has received the Speaker’s approval and is set to be laid before Parliament for a first reading.

“The values, morals, and innocence of our children MUST be protected. I would demand that President John Dramani Mahama sign the Bill when we get it passed again. My position has NOT changed but I despise hypocrites,” he added.

He concluded by calling on law enforcement agencies to track down the individuals in the viral images and enforce the full extent of the law against them.

I have just returned to Accra from Ho in the Volta Region where I attended the climax of our successful #GirlsInICT program.
