The Minister for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Abla Dzifa Gomashie has led a delegation to pay a courtesy visit to Ghana’s legendary highlife musician, Agya Koo Nimo, in Kumasi.
The visit, which took place yesterday Wednesday June 25, forms part of President Mahama’s directive to honour living legends, celebrated Nimo’s immense contributions to Ghana’s cultural heritage.
Accompanying the minister were her deputy, Yussif Jajah, and the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene.
The delegation’s visit underscored the government’s commitment to recognising icons who have shaped Ghana’s creative landscape.
Agya Koo Nimo, revered as the “King of Palmwine Music,” was lauded for his pioneering role in highlife music, blending traditional rhythms with modern sounds.
Earlier that day, Dr. Amoakohene, on behalf of President Mahama, led a team to support 25 aged members of the Kumawood film industry, including families of deceased actors.
This initiative reflects the government’s broader effort to care for and celebrate veterans of Ghana’s creative arts sector.
