Award-winning Ghanaian highlife artiste Fameye has revealed that technical difficulties hampered his performance at the 2025 Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA), claiming they cost him a chance at being the night’s standout act.
Speaking in an interview with Kwame Dadzie on Daybreak Hitz on Hitz FM on July 22, Fameye responded modestly to praise from the host, who had described his performance as “fantastic.”
“Are you sure? For me, I didn’t feel it like that,” he responded, adding that a series of technical setbacks disrupted his set and affected his coordination on stage.
According to the “Notin I Get” singer, a pre-programmed audio preset failed to play during his performance, and his in-ear monitors malfunctioned — a crucial tool for artistes to stay in sync with the band.
“I had setbacks that, if not for those, I would have been the number one performer that night. We had a preset that was supposed to be played, but nothing came through. I wasn’t hearing anything in my in-ear; even the band couldn’t hear,” he explained.
Fameye said the confusion forced the band to begin playing without him, leading to a delayed start on his part.
He eventually had to remove his in-ear monitors and rely on the stage monitors, which made it difficult to keep up.
“You saw me take off the in-ear and I was struggling to hear what was coming from the monitors,” he noted.
Despite the challenges, Fameye emerged as the winner of the Highlife Artiste of the Year category and expressed appreciation for the recognition.
“I was hoping to win more awards, but I appreciate what I got—it was iconic,” he said.
The 25th edition of the Telecel Ghana Music Awards was held on May 10, 2025, at the Grand Arena in Accra. The event crowned King Promise as the overall Artiste of the Year.
