Ghanaian rapper Kweku Smoke has won hearts across social media after offering to pay the entire GH₵66,000 needed for the spinal surgery of Osman Awudu Abu, a final-year student at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).

The news broke on Wednesday, July 24, after a viral post from journalist Reginald JOJO Gwira detailed Osman’s urgent need for surgery to correct a serious spinal condition. The procedure involves inserting metal rods and screws to relieve nerve pressure and prevent permanent damage and loss of mobility.

The post, which quickly gained traction online, included Osman’s photo, his condition, and Mobile Money details for donations. Within hours, Kweku Smoke responded on his verified X (formerly Twitter) account with a simple but powerful message:

“I will pay it 🙏🏽”

This gesture has sparked widespread admiration, with many praising the rapper not only for his music but also for his generosity and sense of humanity.

Osman, who is studying BA History, is said to be in a critical state. According to the appeal, the surgery must be performed before the end of July to avoid irreversible nerve damage. The appeal had called for public donations, but thanks to Kweku Smoke’s pledge, the financial burden appears to be lifted.

Social media users have hailed the act as a beacon of hope, with many calling on other public figures to emulate such kindness.

As of now, Osman’s team is yet to officially confirm receipt of the full amount, but anticipation is high that the surgery will proceed as scheduled, thanks to a rapper whose actions spoke louder than his lyrics.
