Veteran music producer and industry expert Fred Kyei Mensah has called for greater recognition of the economic and cultural impact made by the late Highlife legend, Daddy Lumba.
Speaking on The Chat with Ekow Koomson on Channel One TV on Saturday July 26, he emphasised that beyond his musical genius, Daddy Lumba played a significant role in Ghana’s economy even contributing indirectly to sectors such as the brewery industry.
“Daddy Lumba’s music has driven social gatherings, nightlife, and by extension, the brewery business for decades,” Mensah stated. “He has helped move products, fill venues, and power industries. That’s a contribution to the GDP in its own right.”
Fred’s comments come in the wake of Lumba’s passing on July 26, 2025, a loss that has shaken the nation and reignited conversations about how Ghana commemorates its icons.
“Why wait until they’re gone to celebrate them?” he asked. “We should lift up our legends while they can still see and feel the love,” he added.
As tributes continue to pour in, Fred Kyei Mensah’s remarks serve as a timely reminder that legacy goes beyond music and that true recognition should not be posthumous.
