Daddy Lumba: Ghana has lost a movement not just a man

Ghana has lost not just a man, but a movement. Charles Kojo Fosu, known to us all as Daddy Lumba, was more than a musician.

He was a force, a poet with a guitar, and a voice that grew up with us, aged with us, and healed us through decades of love, pain, betrayal, joy, and cultural pride.

From the smoky corners of highlife’s golden age to the bright lights of burger highlife which in turn inspired Afrobeats, Lumba’s artistry stood unshaken.

He did not just sing; he narrated our lives, turned heartbreaks into anthems, and turned joy into rhythm.

With every note, he challenged the norm. With every lyric, he told a story that no one dared. And when the industry shifted, he didn’t follow, he led. His music became a mirror of Ghana’s soul.

Today, as silence takes over the mic, the echoes of his legacy remain louder than ever. Daddy Lumba may have left the stage, but his songs will never fade. They’ll remain etched into our weddings, our parties, our funerals, and our hearts.

Farewell, Lumba. The maestro. The legend. The eternal voice of a nation.

The Maestro did not leave us empty handed he left his indelible mark through his creativity which I have handpicked a top ten list of his works that have become anthems and motion picture score of the Ghanaian.
