Tourism Vlogger and creator of the “Visit Bolga” social media platform, Dennis Apusika is trekking from Bolgatanga to Accra after vowing to embark the journey if Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) lost to Chelsea in the FIFA Club World Cup.
What started as a lighthearted football bet has transformed into a powerful campaign for sports infrastructure and tourism in Ghana’s Upper East Region.
The long walk started at 6:30 a.m. on July 22, 2025, from Bolgatanga, the Upper East Regional capital and follows the Eastern Corridor route.
Dennis Apusika has so far covered the first leg of the walk passing through Walewale in the North East Region to Tamale, Yendi and Bimbilla in the Nanumba North District of the Northern Region to Damanko and Kpassa in the Nkwanta North District and now heading towards Nkwanta South in the Oti Region.
He indicated that “the walk is to honour the pledge made if PSG lost to Chelsea, but beyond that, the journey is to push for the construction of a sports stadium in the Upper East Region and to promote sports development and tourism.” Apusika explained.
Each step of his trek is more than a test of endurance it’s a chance to engage with communities, spotlight the need for sports facilities in the Upper East Region of Ghana, and share the cultural and tourism potential of the region.
“This isn’t a competition, I’m walking carefully and responsibly, If I were covering fifty kilometres a day nonstop, I would reach Accra in two weeks, but I expect the journey to take about three to four weeks.” Apusika said.
Apusika’s campaign for a sports stadium shines a light on long-standing infrastructure deficits in the north, where the lack of key facilities hampers athletic talent development and limits the region’s tourism potential.
