The Executive Secretary for the Creative Arts Industry, Gideon Aryeequaye, has paid tribute to the late highlife legend, Charles Kojo Fosu, popularly known as Daddy Lumba, describing his passing as a monumental loss that leaves a vacuum “very difficult to fill.”

Speaking during a special edition of The Chat at a candlelight vigil held in honour of the iconic musician, on Saturday, August 2, 2025, Ayikwei reflected on the shock and sadness that followed the news of Lumba’s death.

“I didn’t believe it when I heard about the death of Daddy Lumba, because this is not the first time [such rumours have surfaced]. So I thought it was one of those news [items],” he said.

“It is very unfortunate that we have lost him at this time, especially coming on the back of the death of Dada KD. I mean, how do we lose such a person?”

Aryeequaye praised Daddy Lumba’s unparalleled contribution to Ghana’s music industry, noting that his distinctive style, longevity, and influence had set him apart.

“Daddy Lumba is somebody who was so unique. The vacuum he has created will be very difficult to fill. I haven’t come to terms with it,” he added.

The candlelight vigil brought together hundreds of fans, colleagues, and industry figures, many of whom shared heartfelt memories and tributes to the man whose music has shaped Ghanaian highlife for over three decades.

Daddy Lumba, known for timeless hits and his charismatic stage presence, was widely regarded as one of the most influential musicians in Ghana’s music history.
