In the wake of the tragic military helicopter crash that claimed the life of Ghana’s Minister for Defence, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Member of Parliament and Minister for Communications, Digital Technology and Innovation, Sam George, has penned a deeply emotional tribute that has touched the hearts of many across the country.

Taking to social media on Wednesday, August 6 2025, George poured out his grief in a sorrowful message that captured the depth of his pain, confusion, and disbelief at the sudden loss of his political mentor and friend.

“Where do I start and to whom do I turn? Everyone else is distraught and in despair? How does such tragedy befall a man so calm and warm?” he wrote.

The MP, known for his outspoken nature, struggled to come to terms with the death of someone he described not just as a colleague, but as an elder brother and guiding light. George expressed anguish over their unfulfilled promises and deep personal bond.

“Kofi, why? How? This is not what we agreed! You always asked me who would take care of your mum if anything were to ever happen to you. What did you know that you hid from me?”

He recounted how Dr. Omane Boamah had been instrumental in his political journey, supporting not only his career but also his family.

“You didn’t just care about my politics; you cared and loved my family. You chose the school for my kids and even asked me every term about their performance. You were not a colleague; you were the elder brother I didn’t have,” he shared.

George, who joined Cabinet just seven months ago, revealed that Dr. Omane Boamah had been his closest advisor, helping him navigate the demands of executive office. The loss, he said, has left him spiritually shaken and searching for answers.

“My faith is shaken. My belief is gone. We are told to give thanks in all things. How can I give thanks in this? How do I say it is well? It is certainly not well!”

The tribute ended with a heartbreaking plea:

“Kofi Omane Boamah, wake up and tell me to activate all body cameras. Call me and say ‘Dzata, you have done your thing again.’ Just pick your call, Boss. Please! 😭😭😭”

Dr. Edward Omane Boamah was among eight individuals who lost their lives when a Ghana Armed Forces Z-9 helicopter crashed in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region on Wednesday, August 6, 2025.

Other victims included Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, and six others.

As the nation mourns, Sam George’s heartfelt message stands as a testament to the personal and national loss felt across Ghana.

Investigations into the cause of the crash are ongoing.

Where do I start and to whom do I turn? Everyone else is distraught and in despair? How does such tragedy befall a man so calm and warm? How do you leave me and the squad like this? The tears flow even when I try to compose myself. Composure is a distant reality for me as the… pic.twitter.com/ftXbIA9xpd
