Citi FM has announced it will no longer air live commentary of the English Premier League (EPL), ending an 18-year run of bringing one of the world’s most popular football competitions to Ghanaian listeners.
In a statement signed by Managing Director Samuel Attah-Mensah, the station said the decision was due to a significant rise in subscription costs, which has made it financially unsustainable to continue the service.
“This has been a tough call for us, given our history and the loyalty of our listeners,” the statement read. “For 18 years, we have taken pride in bringing every kick, goal, and thrilling moment of the EPL to homes and offices across the country. Unfortunately, the current cost structure makes it unsustainable for us to continue.”
Since becoming a rebroadcast partner nearly two decades ago, Citi FM has aired almost every EPL match, as well as the FA Cup and League Cup, building a dedicated listener base and earning a reputation as a leader in sports broadcasting in Ghana.
The 2025/26 EPL season begins this weekend, but Citi FM will not carry the live commentary. The station, however, reaffirmed its commitment to delivering quality sports coverage, promising in-depth news, analysis, and updates across all platforms.
