Brooklyn: Crown Heights Nightclub shooting leaves three dead, several injured

The usually vibrant nightlife of Brooklyn’s Crown Heights was shaken in the early hours of Sunday, August 17, 2025, when gunfire erupted inside the Taste of the City Lounge, leaving three men dead and at least a dozen others injured.

According to police, the chaos unfolded around 3:30 a.m. after a heated argument escalated between two men on the dance floor.

What began as a confrontation quickly turned deadly, with multiple shooters exchanging fire as partygoers scrambled for safety.

The Victims

Authorities have identified the three men killed as 19-year-old Marvin St. Louis, who died on the spot, 27-year-old Amadou Diallo, and 35-year-old Jamel Childs, who both later succumbed to their injuries in hospital.

Nine others were rushed to nearby medical facilities with gunshot wounds, while two more victims later checked in at hospitals, bringing the total number of casualties to 14.

A Club Turned Crime Scene

The Taste of the City Lounge, a popular weekend hangout spot, was transformed into a crime scene as investigators marked 42 shell casings scattered across the floor.

A firearm was also recovered near Bedford Avenue and Eastern Parkway, though detectives are still confirming whether it was used in the attack.

Surveillance footage revealed that St. Louis and Childs exchanged the first rounds of gunfire before others joined in, turning the packed club into a battleground. Police believe the violence may have gang connections, with at least three of the wounded linked to the Folk Nation gang.

City Officials React

Mayor Eric Adams described the shooting as “a brutal reminder of the damage illegal guns can cause,” noting it was the second mass shooting in New York City within weeks.

NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch added that while gun violence overall has dropped to historic lows this year, “incidents like this highlight the urgent need for vigilance.”

Entertainment Meets Tragedy

Nightclubs are usually places for music, laughter, and celebration, but for the Crown Heights community, this weekend ended in heartbreak. Regular patrons of the Taste of the City Lounge said the venue was known for its lively Caribbean music nights and friendly atmosphere — making the violence even harder to process.

What’s Next ?

No arrests have been made so far, but detectives are combing through security footage and interviewing witnesses. Authorities are urging anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.

As the investigation continues, Crown Heights finds itself at the center of a conversation about nightlife safety, gun violence, and the balance between enjoying the city’s vibrant entertainment scene and keeping communities secure.
