Ghanaian actor Anthony Woode delivers a career-defining performance in ‘Summer,’ the Yvonne Nelson–directed drama now streaming on Prime Video.

Playing Nana, a widower driven by grief and ambition, Woode brings depth, vulnerability, and intensity to the screen in a way that cements his reputation as one of Africa’s most compelling actors.

The film follows Nana’s journey as he struggles to honour the memory of his late wife by seeking success and power, only to realise that true legacy lies not in material wealth but in love, sacrifice, and character.

It’s a story with emotional weight, and Woode’s portrayal captures every shade of Nana’s struggle — from raw grief to desperate ambition, and finally, to redemption.

Taking on the role wasn’t without challenges. Woode recalls being called in last-minute after another actor dropped out, at the same time his mother was preparing for surgery.

“It was exhausting,” he admits. “I had no time for script reading or rehearsals; I went straight to set. But with God, everything moved smoothly. The story itself inspired me because it takes you through a journey — one that shows the lengths a man can go to for love, while reminding us that legacy is about who you are, not what you own.”

Despite the pressure, Woode’s performance shines. His ability to internalise the character and project emotion makes Summer a standout drama.

His chemistry with co-stars — including Majid Michel, Yvonne Nelson, Hogan Gabriel, Jeffrey Nortey, and Ghanaian musician Kwaw Kese  only heightens the film’s impact.

Together, the cast creates an authentic, emotionally charged atmosphere, but it is Woode’s nuanced portrayal of Nana that stays with viewers long after the credits roll.

Summer is more than just another project for Anthony Woode. It’s a milestone  proof that he can carry a lead role on an international platform while giving audiences a performance that is both memorable and moving.

With this film, Woode not only raises the bar for himself but also sets a new standard for Ghanaian and Nollywood actors stepping into global spaces.

Anthony Woode’s journey is one of talent, resilience, and growth and in Summer, all of that comes together in an outstanding performance that solidifies him as a star to watch.
