The Minister for Gender and Social Protection, Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, has commended the growing role of women in Ghana’s development, stressing that women are steadily reshaping leadership across all sectors.
Speaking at the She Builds Conference organised by The Academic Woman Foundation on Wednesday, September 10, at the Accra International Conference Centre, Dr. Lartey noted that Ghana has made significant progress in amplifying the voices of women.
“Today, women are serving in Parliament, in the judiciary, in corporate board roles, in agriculture, in technology, in the creative arts, and in entrepreneurship.
“Across villages, towns, and cities, women sustain households, build businesses, shape policies, and redefine leadership,” she said.
The Minister highlighted the historic milestone of Ghana’s first female Vice-President, Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, describing her as “a beacon of hope for many young girls coming up, especially for those of us in politics and academia.”
The conference, which brought together women leaders, professionals, and students, focused on the theme: “Women in Entrepreneurship, Law, Built Environment and Engineering: Where Are We Now, Where Are We Going, and What Do We Need to Do?”
The event provided a platform for dialogue on strengthening women’s participation and leadership in traditionally male-dominated fields, while also inspiring the next generation to pursue bold aspirations.
