Menzgold saga: Akufo-Addo to blame for my GH₵1m investment loss – Bullgod

Artiste manager, Lawrence Nana Asiamah Hanson, popularly known as Bullgod, has revealed that he holds a personal grudge against former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and blames him over the infamous Menzgold saga.

Speaking in an interview with George Quaye on Joy Prime on Wednesday October 1, Bullgod said he lost a million cedis when the gold dealership firm, Menzgold Ghana Limited, was shut down under the former president’s administration.

When asked directly if he had a personal problem with Nana Akufo-Addo, Bullgod responded:

“Yes. Because under his watch, I lost a million cedis at Menzgold.”

He argued that just as national issues such as illegal mining (galamsey) are attributed to a sitting president, the collapse of Menzgold must equally be blamed on the Akufo-Addo-led government.

“This regime… if anybody comes in to attack us right now, whose responsibility is that? So you should understand that if you want to shut down Menzgold, fine. But give it time, make sure Menzgold pays out everybody,” he explained.

According to Bullgod, the manner in which the government handled the closure left many customers in anguish. He noted that the impact has been devastating, with victims losing their investments, marriages, businesses, and even lives.

Menzgold Ghana Limited was a gold dealership and investment firm founded by Nana Appiah Mensah, popularly known as NAM 1. The company promised customers an average of 7–10 percent monthly returns on investments.

It initially operated under the names Menzbank and Menzbanc, but rebranded to Menzgold following warnings from the Bank of Ghana about misrepresenting itself as a banking institution.

The company was eventually declared illegal and shut down by the then government, leading to widespread financial losses and public outcry.
